Acid Staining

Acid staining is a unique process where acid stains react with the minerals in your
concrete to achieve a varigated look that is quite popular. It can be
used on interior or exterior applications and since the concrete reacts
to the stain, each project is truely unique. We work with 3 different companies stains to increase
our color pallete and we have been expermenting with dyes. Combined with
decorative scoring, we can achieve a truly unique floor only limited by
your imagination.
Radiant floors in new or existing construction are really
popular these days and we are impressed with the heat put out by these
systems. These floors are ideal candidates for acid staining and or dyeing.
We like the effects of our acid stains on exterior projects. A slate or
stone textured concrete slab acid stained highlights the varigations because
of the "puddling" effect of the the slate or stone.
Decorative
concrete is a fast paced industry and new ideas, techniques, and products
come out quickly and is a challenge to keep up with. We have been experimenting
with new products for our acid stains, dyes and overlays. Some relativly
new products are "Flattoo's" and "Modellos"
Once a floor or countertop is stained additional decorative "stencils"
can be etched into the floor or countertop. The design selection is really
impressive. One can create a concrete carpet for their project!
What about Existing Concrete?
We get
a lot of calls regarding existing concrete patios and walkways. Can we
give existing concrete a facelift? There are many options and what we
need to do is assess your concrete for age, cracks, possible causes of
cracks and stains. We then try to determine the look the client is after
( stamped, stained). All work begins with thorough cleaning, pressure
washing and degreasing and sometimes light acid washing. We then have
a blank canvas.
Options then could be an overlay that could be as basic as a light broom finish to a stamped,
textured and sealed overlay. Another option would be to apply decorative saw cuts and scoring to
simulate a tile pattern and we could then stain with one of our water
based stains. NEWLOOK Unlike acid stains, these stains have a much larger color palatte and
can also be custom color matched. They form a tenacious bond with the
concrete and after cure can even be power washed. We have done projects
on residences where we had an existing patio and we combined stamped concrete
with a complimenting water based stain on the existing concrete with happy
clients. It is not a paint. This stain soaks deep into the pores of the
concrete and whatever texture you have over your existing concrete will
still be there.
